The lip bar
In 2012, Melissa launched The Lip Bar (TLB) because she was incredibly frustrated with the beauty industry. She had so many questions. Why were most cosmetics filled with unnecessary chemicals? Why did lipsticks only come in a limited range of colors? And more importantly, why was the depiction of beauty so damn linear? Everywhere Melissa looked beauty companies, magazines, and the TV were telling women that you need to look like a specific thing to be considered beautiful. She hated it so much, she started making lipstick in her kitchen because she believed beauty shouldn't compromise health.
Hearing TLB's story inspired me to develop branding that spoke to their impact. Clients were attracted to seeing the diversity in their models and how bold and their products were. So when thinking about their marketing, I wanted to create designs that were clean and product centered. Imagery that showed combinations featuring the model and product, attracting larger audiences.
TLB's clients and timelines loved, loved, loved seeing the rebrand of TLB and continue to ask for more product/model centered, interactive posts.
